Rainy Day Wedding

“Friendship is born at the moment one person says to another: ” What! You too? I thought I was the only one” – C.S. Lewis

Recently ventured out beyond the Potomac the far away land of Virginia for a wedding.  It was a crazy stormy day.  We forged roads that turned into rivers but it was all worth it to share in such a beautiful event.  I love weddings.  I love seeing families come together and seeing the birth of a new family.  It’s so special and it’s always an honor to be a part.  This was by far one of my favorites.  Even the rain couldn’t dim the joy of the day.  In fact, as soon as the ceremony ended the sun shone through and revealed the most glorious scenery.  It was just so green.  I think I said that one or a million times while we were there.

The day was full of fun details from a photo booth and cookie bar to dancing in the barn and homemade donuts.  It was a magical day and I’m so thankful I got to be a part.  I think my favorite part was the shared giggle that came from the crowd when the bride began her walk down the aisle to Adele’s “Feel My Love” with the line “When the rain is pouring in your face.”

Congrats Justin & Mindy!  Let the adventure begin!

Fish Tales

Meet Frank.

Frank is my new friend.  See Frank swim.  Isn’t he pretty.  Sorry Frank I meant handsome.

I met Frank this weekend when my friend asked me/my responsible roommate to watch him.  For the record, I think fish are the only animals I should be allowed to watch.  It’s hard to mess it up.  Not impossible.  Just hard.

Frank and I had a blast together.  We laughed.  We swam in circles (well he did).  We simultaneously gagged when we had to change his water (well I did).  We pondered the deep things in life.  We made fish faces.  It really was wonderful.

He left on Monday.  It was sad.  Especially when I found out his name was Max…

Too think all that time we spent together and he never once corrected me.  So embarrassing.

Easter Garden Party

I love Easter.  It’s a reminder of new life.  A reminder that death even in this world doesn’t have the final say.  It’s signifies newness.  Light. Color.

We had such a wonderful Easter this year.  Celebrated with a garden party in a friend’s backyard.  There’s nothing about celebrating life with people that you’re privileged to do life with.

Speaking of new life…. She just keeps getting cuter every day.

How was your Easter?  Do you have any special traditions each year?

We’re adrift on a sailboat

This arrived in the mail today….

I’d like to jump in or perhaps just nestle into those pillows with a good book.  Feel the breeze on my face.  Drag my hand through the water… go sailing!

When I came up with my 30 before Thirty list the one item that seemed like a long shot was the one about sailing… (well actually a lot of them do… I don’t know how to dream small)..   I love to sail, but unfortunately my daily life doesn’t provide for that often.   I grew up sailing.  It’s something special I share with my Daddy.  He’s a sailor.  He makes it look easy.  I do not.  Last time I went I threw up over the side… and I did not make it look easy.

I still however love sailing.  I love the idea of being directed by the wind.  No hurried agenda.  It’s wonderful.

Wouldn’t you know that DC Groupon recently had a special deal for DC Sail!  So it’s not exactly tropical blue water that we’ll be sailing on, but it’s still sailing and I can’t wait!

Who knew sailing would be one of the first things I checked off my 30 before Thirty list.  Stay tuned for full details of our sailing fun.

Have you been sailing?  What’s your favorite part?

p.s. I LOVE the song “Sailboats” by Brooke Fraser.  Listen here.

DC Spring

Have a wonderful weekend and get out and enjoy the flowers!

Weekend Sneak Peek

Hope yours was as wonderful as mine!

Thirty before 30

Psst….I have to tell you something.

I like lists.  I live by lists.  I even make them on Saturdays.

Sometimes I write things I’ve already done on lists, just so I can cross them off.

On any given day you can probably find several different “To do” lists on my desk… or in my pocket… although I usually don’t discover those until AFTER I’ve done laundry.

About a month and a half ago I turned 29. (for reals) I also like to procrastinate but that’s another story.  In preparation for my birthday I drafted up a list… of course!  I’ve decided that there are thirty things (at least) that I want to accomplish before I turn 30.  It may be a bit of an ambitious list, especially since I’m finally blogging about it a MONTH and a half after my birthday… C’est la vie! (that’s French right?)

So here goes…. in no apparent order the following are thirty things I want to do before I turn 30!  I’ll blogging as I go, so hopefully that will help me stay on track and it won’t become thirty things I have to do in the last week before I turn 30 ;-)

Go to a Broadway show

Start playing the piano again (My mom was right, I regret stopping my lessons in junior high)

Pay off my Credit Card

Travel to Cali (remember how I said I write things on a list that I’ve already done… read about it here, here & here)

Take a language class

Write a Children’s Book

Learn how to use Photoshop

Take Voice Lessons

Start my own business

Take a Dance Class

Go to a Hillsong Event

Create a savings plan to buy my own home someday

Bike to work

Find my favorite mascara

Go to a Women’s Conference

Find the perfect gift for my Dad

Learn how to cook (this may take the rest of my life… I’m not going to lie)

Read 10 books

Be a more generous person

Stop drinking Soda

Go Sailing

Clean out my Blog Reader

Phew!  There you have it! Now comes the easy part… actually doing it!  Now I know that most of these aren’t “SMART” goals but rest assured that I have plans and additional sub-lists to ensure they happen… Is sub-lists a word?  Do I need help… hmmm… maybe.

Do you like lists?  What is something you want to do before your next birthday?

Dreaming of Purple Violets

When I was a young girl I would spend hours dreaming and drawing up designs for my ideal bedroom… I remember spending countless afternoons using every color pencil imaginable in the hopes of somehow capturing the dream sanctuary on paper…

Then one day, something truly miraculous happened.  My parents decided to re-do the large guest bedroom and told me that it would be all mine.  My dream was finally coming true… a beautiful new room that I could decorate to my heart’s content…

The one thing I knew for sure was that it would be PURPLE and have lots and lots of violets… they were my favorite flower… I still love them… they remind me of carefree summer days… anyways, that’s an aside…

One day while visiting the local home store I came across a fabric that brought all my dreams to life…

it was by WAVERLY… and I fell in love.  My Mom bought the fabric and made a bed spread and pillows similar to the ones above.  My Dad bought the wallpaper and laid down the plushest purple carpet I’ve ever seen.  I was in heaven.  I laid out my beautiful violet tea cups and would spend hours in my bedroom hosting the most elaborate tea parties for my dolls and teddy bears…

Alas…. we moved 6 months later… something I’m not sure I’ve ever fully recovered from.  It’s funny because when I dream of home, that’s often the room I see…

Guess what though… WAVERLY is still making dreams come true today!  Bryn Alexandra Interiors ( LOVE her name!) is hosting a giveaway on her site.  Check it out here and you can enter to win some dream inducing WAVERLY fabric of your own.

Happy Friday!
